Northern Drakensberg and Natal Midlands
The Natal midlands area is located near Pietermaritzburg, the inland of KwaZulu-Natal. It offers tranquil country living in small towns such as Hilton, Lions river, Balgowan and Nottingham Road.
On the Natal Midlands Western boarder is the Drakensberg, the highest mountain range in South Africa, also known as ‘the dragon mountain’.
The Drakensberg offers numerous hikes, horse trails, canopy tours, abseiling, local arts and crafts and a great scenery with waterfalls, rock pools and caves. There are between 35000 and 40000 works of bushmen art. More than 20,000 individual rock paintings have been noted at 500 different caves and overhangs between the Drakensberg Royal Natal National Park and Bushman's Neck.
